The majority of you will be aware that your laptops drive is where you store all
of your files and programs, and that you have a restricted amount of space ruled by the dimensions of your external hard drive What a few of you might not know is that the type of hard drive you have can effect how quick your laptop will run. Here is a short tutorial to help choose the fastest hard disk for your PC.
the velocity of a tough dish is set by a couple of factors, the first of which is The speed at which it can operate. This is measured in r.p.m and speeds range from 4200RPM all of the way to ten 000RPM. Most new laptops come with a 5400RPM hard disk which is ok and forms the standard speed nowadays. A 5400RPM drive will be fast enough for most portable users, unless you are planning to play games or do graphical or video editing, where you should be having a look at a 7200RPM hard disk instead.
The other factor influencing hard disk speed is the amount of memory it has also known as Cache, measured in Megabytes ( MB ). This will range from 2MBs to 32Mbs and the more it has the speedier it will be. Most portable manufacturers do not specify this so do not worry too much if you cannot find it out. The other thing you need to know is how much hard drive space you'll need in your portable. The scale of a tough drive does not influence its performance only the amount of data you can store on it. A song will use up about 0.003Gbs, a full length flick about 1GB and computer games will use anywhere from 5-15GBs of space. You'll need to guess the amount of space you will require.
there is only 1 type of hard disk that does not fit with our guide. A Solid State Drive ( SSD ). These are like giant USB flash memory sticks you may use to store files on when moving from computer to PC. The only difference is that they are huge enough to act as your computers hard drive. These perform far faster than even the best of traditional hard disks as they have no moving parts. as with all state-of-the-art technology they're terribly costly so we recommend you stay away from these unless you need to show off or want very fast loading times.
