Powerful Or Pitiful? Paralyzing Success Barriers

Anyone aspiring to succeed in the world of business knows that challenges are a daily battle. Unfortunately, it's usually not the daily dilemmas that send us into the realm of failure. Our worst enemy and biggest obstacle is often our own mind. So what do you do when you are responsible for creating your own success barriers?

The answer is quite simple. You make a decision that success barriers are not concrete walls designed to prevent you from entering the place you want to be. They can be removed. You see, success barriers are merely the fruit of your attitude. In other words, your attitude or how you approach your business or life in general determines the size of challenges. Now just in case you are squawking at the idea that your attitude creates barriers, allow me to prove this to you.

Your Attitude Creates Success Barriers

First of all, there is no person ever in history who has succeeded without facing challenges or overcoming success barriers. I am sure you would agree with that statement. Contrary to the idea that some people just have it easier than others, some people just work harder on their response to challenges than others. When it comes to success in any part of your life your attitude can be your best friend or your worst enemy. As quoted by Olympic gold medalist Scot Hamilton "the only disability in life is a bad attitudenothing will hinder you or handicap you as severely as a bad attitude." At the same time, nothing will set you up for success as greatly as having a positive attitude.

Here is an example where we can create our own success barriers. Let's assume there are two people in the same situation, each approaching it differently. Person A has a poor attitude about their new business. He or she complains about their challenges. Their thoughts are directed in this way. This is never going to work for me. This is too hard. I didn't expect this much work would be involved. I am not having fun. I don't feel anyone appreciates what I am doing. My work is going unrecognized. I am not sure I even like the people I am working with. Nobody wants to buy what I have. My products must be over priced. For every step forward I am taking two steps back. Maybe this isn't meant to be.

Person B is experiencing the same challenges however is not complaining and their attitude is more reflective of this. I am so grateful to have an opportunity to change my life. I am going to do my very best every day. Challenges are my chance to learn and grow. I am grateful to be a part of a team, even with all our different personalities. I am excited at the idea of making more money, and I know I will have to work hard for it. I know not everybody is going to buy my product, so I just need to talk to more people. I understand I am new at this and it takes time to master my skills. I know in time my work will be recognized and I will be rewarded for it.

Looking at this example, it is pretty easy to see which person will persevere and which will not. It is apparent that the person with the positive attitude isn't viewing success barriers as stopping points. They are viewing challenges as an opportunity to grow.

The Size of the Success Barriers Is Relevant to Powerful of Pitiful Thinking

Okay, so most of us have had our share of tough times. If you haven't, you will. It is how we think and prepare our mind in the tough times that determines the size of our success barriers. Your attitude sets your expectations. Your expectations lay the foundation for your results. If you automatically expect good outcomes, it doesn't guarantee your success, but it certainly increases your chances. Your actions follow your expectations. If you expect negative results, or lack in your belief of whether or not you can achieve what you want, you set yourself up for failure from the start. A positive attitude will get you through the tough times and ultimately through your challenges. It changes your perspective. Instead of viewing obstacles as success barriers, you look at each situation in terms of solving individual problems.

Being powerful or pitiful simply equates to your attitude and how you respond. Whether you choose to have a positive or negative attitude will guide the direction and path you take in life. When you have a positive attitude and expectation, you don't see the success barriers, you see ways around them. You don't sit and stare at the wall and say "well I guess I can't go any further." You go over, under, around, or through it. Success barriers are only the result of your decision to view them as negatives and allow them to defeat you. Success is a choice not a result of circumstance. Attitude is a choice and the only real thing if life we have complete control over. The choice is yours, you decide.
