Between the two World Wars, culture in Prague flourished. It became known as the city of famous names such as Kafka, Rilke, and Capek.

The city of Prague was occupied in both World War II (by the Germans). Prior to World War II, various cultures within Prague (i.e. Czech, German, and German-Jewish) had coexisted peacefully.

Later, during the Cold War Prague was occupied by the U.S.S.R. Then In 1989, Prague became the focal point of a movement that eventually led to the peaceful removal of the nation's Communist government.

Today, Prague serves as a major financial and cultural hub of the Czech Republic. In particular, it has become renowned for its architecture, literature, and music. The city boasts of several huge engineering plants, publishing houses, electronics factories, machine-building businesses, and breweries.
