Pre-event Preparation Tips
How is it that there are times when you excel in the events you participate in and at other times it just is not so great
? The event could be a game, a presentation or even a meeting. The answer might lie in pre-event preparation.
Preparation includes both long term and short term preparation. Long term preparation will include information and knowledge gathering as well as training. Short term preparation is about strategies to psyche you up so that you are ready for that moment. This is about preparing the day before, the morning of, just before and during the event.
This type of preparation is necessary to keep at bay any feeling of anxiety and to keep you focused on the task at hand. All your energies are focused on this single event.
Focus on your strengths. The pre-event preparation time is not when you start fixing the weak points. Leave this for long term preparation and get the necessary training. Now is the time to build your confidence and feel strong for that specific event.
Get organized for the event. Plan what time you will be there and how you will get there. Be aware of traffic conditions. Avoid other activities that could stress you out and make you depressed or tired just before the event. You want to be at your confident best for the event.
Do not over-train just before the event. Your long term training should be able to carry you through. Focusing on what you lack will just make you nervous.
Be prepared with your game plan as to what you will do once the event starts. You cannot afford to leave this to chance. At the same time, be open to adjustments you may need to make depending on the circumstances.
Visualize a successful outcome of the event as pre-event preparation. Preparing for the negatives should have been done long before the event.
Otherwise, keep your normal routine of eating, exercising, sleeping and other activities. This is so that everything still feels normal and you do not get anxious just thinking about the event all the time.
One last tip will be to surround yourself with supportive people who encourage you and help boost your confidence.
Pre-event preparation is so key to getting you ready and doing it correctly will make a great difference. Any way, you will be spending time preparing. So, why not do it right?
