Preparing For A Day Out With The Family
Your Budget And Your Time Are Primary Considerations
The options you have for you family outing are naturally also determined by the time and the money that you are prepared to spend for it. You cannot go on an outing without having a rough estimate of what you will be spending. This is quickly done by making a pair of lists.
What You Might Need To Buy On The Road
The first list should contain the names of the supplies that will be obliged to buy during the trip. People taking their own cars will need to purchase enough gasoline for a round trip. People without cars will need to have fare money. If you are not using your car, don't stuff your knapsack with drinks. Most probably, you won't be opening a lot of them because you will want to buy cold drinks by the road. A water bottle for each member of the family will do.
The amount of your budget will also help you decide whether you should prepare the food at home or not. Unless, you are visiting a famous eating place, home-made food is good enough for family outings. If you are planning to eat outside, you should inquire about the current prices of the establishment first so that you can allot a reasonable budget for it.
Things You Can Get At Home
As mentioned, food is definitely one necessity that you can cook up at home. Don't make any fancy stuff. For family outings, large, meaty sandwiches are usually suitable. You and your kids won't be focusing on food. You will be engrossed by the sights and the things you might want to do in the place.
If you are not traveling in your own car, you will naturally have to limit the things you can bring with you in a large knapsack. You could throw in water bottles, beer and soft drink cans...not too many though. As already mentioned, your kids might prefer to purchase cold drinks at stores. You will also need extra clothes, towels and possibly game boards for the kids. Don't forget to bring along some first aid items and snacks.
Think About What You Want To Do During Family Outings
Let the kids give their suggestions about where to go and what to do there. That day is, after all, for them. However, you should contribute your own ideas if you think theirs are not too good. For a fun outing, a playground with modern playing facilities is a good destination. Just inquire before hand whether there is a place for eating the food you prepared, a store to buy cold drinks from and a working (!) washroom.
A well guarded conservation park in the country is not a bad location for a family outing. The place will need to have guards though.
Otherwise, you might suggest a fishing trip to the kids if your family is in to that. That would be a combined camping and fishing trip. If you are fishing in a stream, the kids might want to bring along swimming gear and bathe in the stream while you are fishing.
It should be clear by now that to keep your family outings expenses at a reasonable level, bring the kids to a place where they will enjoy the activity. Bored kids will simply keep buying food and things for want of anything else to do.
