Presentation Preparations For Any Occasion
There will always be moments throughout everyone's life that will require you to
get up in front of other people and either sell something, present an idea or talk about something you are passionate about. These times call for good
presentation skills, as it is important to know how to talk and communicate with others without putting them to sleep. There are certain things you can do in order to prepare yourself for these presentations. First, list and prioritize the top three goals that you want to accomplish with your audience. It is not enough to just talk at them If you're not clear with yourself and others, it is very easy for your audience to completely miss the point of your presentation.
List the major points of information that you want to convey to your audience and be clear about the tone that you want to set for your presentation such as, hopefulness, celebration, teamwork and so on. Identifying the tone to yourself can help you portray that mood to your audience better. Present your goals for the presentation, clarify the benefits of the presentation to the audience and explain the overall layout of your presentation. It is also important to design a brief closing that summarizes the key points from your presentation and to also leave room for questions.
If you are speaking to a small group of people, it is extremely beneficial to make eye contact with each person for a few seconds throughout your presentation. This can be a very personal feeling for your audience and shows that you have
people skills. Looking up from your materials or notes every 10 seconds or so, to look at your audience, is a good trait to stick with as well, given that no one wants to listen to someone who is fixated on what is right in front of them. Speak loud and a little slower than you normally would and vary the volume and rate of your speech. Someone with a monotone voice does not keep the attention of their audience. Lastly, keep your hands fairly still. If you seem fidgety, people will pay more attention to that than to what you have to say.
These preparations will give you more confidence and a better presence in front of others. Knowing how to handle yourself when making these presentations can either make or break your speech. Don't let a little nervous twitch or fear of speaking in front of others scare you. Everyone does it at some point and believe it or not, people want to hear what you have to say.
