Prevent Swine Flu Infection This Holiday Season

The CDC (Center for Disease Control) has just updated that influenza activity remains

high in the United States, during the week of November 1st - November 7th, 2009. A flu that mimics an influenza virus in pigs is circulating rapidly and is called the "Swine Flu". Here are some measurements you can put in place to protect both yourself and your family this upcoming holiday season.

Staying indoors is recommended, but this becomes a challenge when the holiday season is in bloom. We are faced with the need to go out shopping for the season, and attend many social gatherings at work and throughout our families. What can we do to stay safe?

Whenever possible, do your shopping on the Internet so that will decrease the amount of time you spend in shopping malls and around others. Our homes should be frequently cleaned and the use of products such as disinfectant is highly recommended. Stock up on Clorox and Lysol and make sure you are consistently disinfecting areas, especially the kitchens and bathrooms. Use sanitizer wipes frequently.

Take showers instead of baths, showers rinse germs away, and baths accumulate them in a tub. Make sure to wash regularly and if you have a young child, wash them frequently. Wash your hands frequently. Keep a lot of hand sanitizer and make sure the sanitizer you are using kills 99.9% of germs.

The way the swine flu works, is that you can be infected up to one day before you start to show any symptoms. If you start to show any flu symptoms see a medical professional immediately. If any family members are infected, they should not be attending the gatherings and the home of the infected person or people should not be where the festivities take place.

Taking the extra time and effort to guard yourself against the swine flu will ensure you can still enjoy your holiday while staying safe. Of course, staying home is always recommended.
