Procedures Of A Herniated Disc Surgery

. This, out of the question, causes those who suffer from it to experience real painful feeling. This is when herniated disc surgery is considered to be necessary. Yet, despite the statistics showing that most of these surgeries often fail, this is the last resort the sufferers have in hopes of getting over their pain.

What surgery a patient will have to undergo will usually be determined by the condition of their herniation and how severe it may have turned out. A doctor or physician will usually be able to tell this if they have already gone through the patient's MRI.

Important aspects to take into consideration in undergoing a herniated disc surgery are the procedures the patients will come across. Principally, there are 3 main procedures to encounter. The first one is the open discectomy.

Before undergoing this particular procedure, patients need to be aware that there is indeed fluid leaking out from their disc when they get herniation. It is this liquid that hurts them so much since it irritates the nerve a great deal by pressing it. A discectomy is intended to remove this fluid. But in order to run this procedure, doctors will usually put the patients under general anesthesia.

The second procedure that patients undergoing herniated disc surgery will have to encounter is the endoscopic discectomy. This second procedure is almost the same as the one described earlier. It is also intended to remove the fluid from patients' nerves. However, this second procedure is less invasive compared to the first one.

A tiny incision is usually all it takes to run this second procedure. This is far less invasive compared to the incision of 3 cm in an open discectomy. Open discectomy will usually peel patients' muscles from their spines as well. An endoscopic discectomy, in comparison, utilizes a video recording device which is attached to the endoscopic probe. This makes it possible for the doctors to remove the fluid from patients' nerves by means of tiny surgical equipments.

The last alternative is the percutaneous discectomy. However, this procedure needs to be carried out before the patients' disc happen to herniate. This procedure is carried out with the help of a device known as the cannula. This equipment resembles a needle and it is used to remove tissue from the patients' disc to heal their pain. This procedure is also less invasive compared to the open discectomy. Yet, this is not a procedure that is carried out too often. The good thing with this last herniated disc surgery is perhaps that the patients can remain awake during the whole process.
