Production of Biogas at Home
Biogas is a mixture of gas includes carbon dioxide and methane. It is produced by the biological breakdown of organic matter with the absence of oxygen. Biogas can be used as cooking gas. It is very clean and is very environmentally friendly. The bio-gas is obtained from plant, animal and human waste, also called as biomass. The main source of biogas is wet cow dung, which is most commonly used for production of biogas. The other sources of biogas are: sewage, crop residue, vegetable wastes, waste wood, dry leaves of the plants, broken branches of trees, garbage, waste paper, poultry droppings, pig manures, algae, ocean kelp etc.
Biogas can be produced utilizing small plants which is called biogas generators or biogas plants. These plants are fed with biomass. During the process, an air-tight tank turns the waste into methane. The various chemical processes that can be used for production of biogas in biogas plants are: digestion, Pyrolysis and hydrogasification. There are many types of biogas plants. To use which type of them depends on the biomass type and the quantity of gas to be produced.
It is better to use food waste for the productioin of biogas at home. Animal waste is difficult to deal with and the smell is very unpleasant. Food waste is much easier to handle with. And the biogas generator for food waste is small and convenient to use. You can even build it yourself instead of buying one.
It is not difficult to build your own biogas generator. What you need is a step-by-step guide.I recommend one for you. This guide is called "FireDigester".Click here to learn more about it.
