Professional Development and Research Methods: Gender Disparity in Engineering

Engineering has always been a revered area both as a field of study as well as a professional career. Its influence stretches over a wide range of arenas with close to every organization needing an engineer to handle their technical issues. However, in spite of this dominance, some researchers from have noted that engineering is mostly dominated by men with very few women getting to express their expertise in it (Sherwood 1994).

This worrying trend has drawn sharp criticisms from a number of scholarly quarters but, seemingly; there is not much that is being done by the relevant authorities. To support this, a recent documentation by Rohatynskyi et al. (2008) says that the number of stigmatized women with regards to engineeringand other scientific fieldshas been on an upward mobility in spite of the much outcry that has been repeatedly sounded by the victimized parties. So are there any prospects of solutions being found to this gender disparity in engineering or should we just sit back silently and continue languishing in the ever-increasing devastating effects of this trend?

Well, in order for this issue to be solved, it is inherent that we dig deep into the annals of history and find the root causes and effects of this problem. Then from that basis, we will be able to formulate ways in which we can forge forward and change this worrying predicament that we are in. Essentially, it is based on this background that this paper is going to present a way in which I plan to conduct an expansive research on the gender disparity in engineeringwith special focus being on the women who are most affected by itand on the possible solutions available towards the curbing of this problem.

Having stated that; it is elemental to state that this research proposalwhich will eventually lead to the prospected researchwill be outlined as follows. Preliminarily, an evaluative analysis of the research methodology to be used in the research is done. After this, a GANTT chart detailing the intricacies of the research plan and approach is documented. A literature review of scholarly write-ups with regards to gender disparity in engineering will then be done. This will be closely followed by a concise analysis of the literature review

Finally, a clear delineation of the hypothesis, research aims (as well as objectives and the assumptions of the research that is to be conducted. All this will, then, be summed up by a short conclusion which will reemphasize on the key aspects of the research. Notably, this research proposal uses a wide range of books, website material and journal articles in order to ensure that this paper is factual, objective, realistic and precise.
