Professions That Use Computer Aided Design
CAD programs or computer aided design programs are some of the most advanced computer programming available
. These advanced programs allow engineers to design objects in both two and three dimensions and this software is responsible for the design and production of millions of items that we use on a daily basis.
From the moment you wake up to the moment you go to sleep, you have been using products created on a CAD program including shampoo bottles, stairs, cars, doors, coffee mugs, and just about anything else you can think of. If you hope to work in a design related field, chances are you may be working with a CAD program. Listed below are a few professions that use CAD on a daily basis.
Mechanical Design Engineer
Mechanical engineers deal with the principles of physics and materials science in order to analyze, design, and manufacture various systems and products. Because mechanical engineers work in a variety of different disciplines, they must have a solid understanding of mechanics, thermodynamics, kinematics, energy, fluid mechanics, and other important core principles. Mechanical engineers work with computer aided engineering and 2D and 3D computer aided design programs in order to better visualize their designs and more accurately analyze the design.
Automotive Design Engineer
An automotive design engineer, who usually has a background and education in industrial design, specializes in designing the appearance of an automobile. In some cases the designer may also be involved in the design of the vehicle's interior including ergonomics. Most automobile manufacturers employ a team of automotive designers to work collectively on projects. These designers will most likely use some type of 2D or 3D CAD program to assist with the design of the vehicle.
Architectural Design
Because an architect is responsible for the design of homes or buildings that must be structurally sound and meet pre-existing building codes, he must go through specialized training in order to be qualified to design. He must be familiar with actual design costs. An architect may work with a design team that includes structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers.
This team of designers will work with the architect using advanced computer aided design programs. In some cases, a designer may need to upload a physical blueprint into a computer aided design program. This is done through a specialized scanning program often referred to as "paper to CAD."
These are just three of the many professions that benefit from the use of advanced computer aided design programs that assist with the design of millions of the products that we use every day.
