What Is Project Management?

Project management is the discipline of planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives. Project management is the art and science of converting vision into reality and abstract into concrete.

It is a carefully planned and organized effort to accomplish a specific usually one-time objective, for example, construct a building or implement a major new computer system. Project management includes developing a project plan, which includes defining and confirming the project goals and objectives, identifying tasks and how goals will be achieved, quantifying the resources needed, and determining budgets and timelines for completion.

* Project planning or design stage;

* Project execution or production stage;

* Project monitoring and controlling systems;

* Project completion

Project management discipline has experienced an extraordinary growth in the last decade. Project management is carving out its appropriate place as a distinct discipline in its own right. For a discipline to be sustainable, it has to have its own body of knowledge, research, standards, education system, application methodology and certification/qualification.

The key to a successful project is in the planning. Creating a project plan is the first thing you should do when undertaking any kind of project. Often project planning is ignored and many people fail to realize the value of a project plan in saving time, money and many problems.
