Prolonged Lack Of Sleep Effects ' Are You Prepared For High Blood Pressure?

A good sleep is very important for the maintenance of health both physically and psychologically

. It is now well established that when we are sleeping, a lot of necessary repairs are taking place in various organs and systems of our body. Apart from that, lack of sleep can cause some uncomfortable experience the following day. It can even be dangerous if you cannot concentrate on driving for example.

If the lack of sleep is for a long period, both physical and mental healths are affected. It is surprising to know that women are more commonly affected adversely than men.

According to a British research recently, blood pressure increases sharply if the person continues to inadequate sleep or lack of sleep for a long period. There was no association with the cause of lack of sleep like insomnia or stress.

In the study it was concluded that there is about 42 percent more risk of developing high blood pressure amongst women as compared to the men who had about 31 percent increased risk of high BP. It was however not clear, according to the study, what caused this difference.

More studies are required to determine other factors which produced such a result. In such a situation, it is difficult to decide whether this study is clinically significant or not. According to the reports, the participants in the study did not have any history of high BP in the past and they were observed for three years.

The study was repeated after some years and the it showed some disparity between the average number of people being affected as a result of lack of sleep but the gap between the male and female subjects remained the same with women having higher risk of developing high BP.

The researchers concluded that there were other factors like lifestyle, smoking, obesity, and genetics. Any of these factors may have some role in the results of the study. No one is entirely sure how lack of sleep interacted with other factors in the causation of high blood pressure.

Whatever the results, it is important to understand from this study that lack of sleep can cause hypertension and lifestyle should be modified and sleep hours should be increased to prevent such a chronic disease. Females should be more careful as compared to men.

You must never think that you can be more efficient by cutting the number of hours of sleep and be more productive.
