Proper Car Park Management To Keep Your Business Running Smoothly
A lot of businesses will have their own car park for employees
, whilst you would expect something as simple as a car park to be easy enough to operate and should require little maintenance they can actually become a problem as cars that dont belong to your workers or guests may park on your property or snow and ice turn your car park in to an ice rink.
Clear markings of parking bays should be present in your car park to show where people can and cannot park. Other road markings such as disabled parking bays or emergency access areas should be marked out so that emergency services can access your property if there is a medical or fire related incident.
In some cases cars may be parked illegally or someone may be using your employees car park but do not actually work for you, on private land you may be able to discourage these people by putting up warning signs or car park barriers that can stop people from entering outside of business hours. If you find this isnt getting through then you could use a wheel clamp if they are not willing to heed your instructions. By doing this then you could easily make sure that no one tries to park on your property again.
In most car parks and site roads you will want drivers to drive sensibly and not drive at speed, safety signs showing speed limits can help as well as installing speed bumps, these can be easily fitted to the roads and car parks to encourage drivers to slow down, most businesses impose a speed limit between 10 and 20 mph to ensure that all drivers are at a slow enough speed that if someone were to step out or another vehicle suddenly pull out that the cars could stop and avoid any bumps or accidents.
The winter can be a troublesome time for businesses and in particular their car parks. Cars that drive on snow covered or icy roads are going to handle poorly with braking distances increased as well as turning becoming less responsive. Whilst the main roads and motorways will be the responsibility of the local council you will need to make sure all roads and car parks are gritted and cleared of snow and ice. Accidents such as slips and collisions can be costly if your company is found to be at fault for inadequate snow management so make sure you keep your car parks clear of snow and that your grit supplies are topped up.
