Protect your vehicle with rubber wheel chocks you'll be glad you did

Prevent your truck or fleet of trucks in the utility or telephone industry with rubber wheel chocks, and you'll be glad you did. Not only will you be complying with OSHA specifications, you'll be insuring that your truck will be protected from accidental movement. In case you aren't familiar with them, here's a bit of information.

Rubber wheel chocks are standard in the service industry that caters to residential (and often commercial) properties. They are used each time a truck has been stopped, placed in park and the emergency brake applied. The chocks are placed firmly against the center of the tire, on both sides in many cases. The traction design of Roadblocks wheel chocks grips the road and does not cause damage to the road or the tire it is placed against. A rubber wheel chock is strong and safe and is resistant to salts, oils and fuels from the truck and the location where it is placed. A handy carrying loop is a good thing for chocks either that or a built in handle for easier transport. Size + Shape + Weight

Rubber wheel chocks come in various sizes and have different weights. Of course, the larger items will be heavier, yet you may have a choice of whether the chock is solid or void, or hollow. The hollow version is still stable, yet must be tested and considered for the weight of the truck. This void version still weighs a good seven pounds for a 10" x 8" x 5 " with the solid version of the same chock at 10 pounds, while the 11x10x7.25 also with a voided bottom, weighs in at 15 pounds. The shape of the chock may make a difference to you as well, as some chocks are symmetrical and can be placed with either side against the tire. Some of the larger chocks made for larger, more industrial vehicles are one sided, with a flat, 90 degree angle with a sloped side for the tire.

Gripping the Surface

As noted above, a rubber wheel chock will grip the ground quite nicely, but a little help on slippery surfaces doesn't hurt. Some chocks have optional accessories available that are grated or cleated. A steel grate will hold closer to a surface when on a steep grade and can be more effective on a gravel ground. A chock with an ice cleat will dig into the ice for extra assurance that it will hold if the weight or the grade is challenging.

To sum it up, if you are in the industry with light trucks and are cognizant of following OSHA specs, pay attention to the requirements for rubber wheel chocks.
