Providing Shelter as Part of the Lionhead Rabbit Care

I am about to make a hutch for my lionhead rabbit for 3 reasons. First, I want it customized. I want it to look like a miniature home. Second, I want to save money. If I'll buy a hutch that looks like what I have in mind, I am certain that it will cost me a lot. Third, I want my pets to be more comfortable. I tried to shop for a cage yesterday; however, the designs I saw may hurt my pet's feet.

To make sure that I will be able to create the exact replica of what I have in mind, I drew the plan on a sheet of paper. At first, I showed it to my neighbor who is a skilled carpenter. My first idea is to have someone build it for me; however, I find the price he quoted quite high. Since I have carpentry skills and it's my holiday, I've decided to do the work myself. I just made sure that I had everything properly planned out before I jumped into my project.

I bought quality wood because I want the hutch to last long. Since I am planning to take another bunny to pair with the one I have now, I want to make the hutch large enough so they can play inside. There will be an area for feeding, an area for sleeping and an area for droppings. I want them to be able to move around so they won't get bored. I took most of my time making sure that everything was measured right so I did not waste any materials.

I was able to finish my project after a few hours. My bunny now has a lovely house. My next step is to find him a mate. I am quite sure that he will be happier if he will have company in the cage. I will definitely get another bunny from a rabbit adoption center. One thing that I should remember is that in spite of having a house, bunnies should be allowed to play in the lawn outside at least twice a day so they can exercise.
