Pursuing A Career On Different Medical Imaging Courses
If you are planning to work on the field of medical imaging
, you need to know the differences between the medical imaging procedures and radiology technologies on the industry. Of course, if you decide to pursue this course, you need to know that there are a lot of machines that you have to handle and each of the machines require training and education. It means that if you want to handle all the medical equipments under this course, you need to get a technician certification for all the training.
Basically, you cannot simply jump from one specialty to another without proper training and education. It is best if you know a couple of things about the different medical imaging machines used by technicians.
Radiography
It is one of the most common forms of medical imaging and one of the most in demand as well. It is popular known as X-rays. The people who took x ray technician classes are known as x-ray technicians or radiographers. Basically, they are the professionals who are trained to operate an X-ray machine. Of course, not everyone can operate this machine. They are trained specifically for this purpose.
The x-ray machine makes use of radiation that passes through the body to produce an image. However, the rays do not easily pass the bones of the body since they are absorbed so the bones appear white on the images. The dark areas on the image are soft tissues since the rays pass through them easily. This is the reason why a lot of people consider radiology technician classes to pursue a career on this field.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)
It is another form of medical imaging. Of course, you also need to enter trade and technical schools and get a certification even if you already have a certificate on radiography. They are two different medical imaging machines so you need expertise and proper training to use them effectively. This imaging machine creates images in a different process compared to x-rays. This machine uses magnets instead of rays. The patients that undergo an MRI scan are exposed to a magnetic field. Soft tissues appear perfectly on MRI images compared to x-rays. This is the reason why it is often used for imaging areas of the body like vascular systems, brain and joints.
Sonography
It is another form of medical imaging commonly known as Ultrasound. It makes use of sound waves to create images. The technicians make use of a transducer. It is a special device that can emit and receive high frequency sound waves. The sound waves will bounce off the tissues and organs and it will be received by the transducer.
If you plan to pursue a career on this field, make sure that you know what field you want to earn expertise with before entering technician classes.
