Putting Success On Your 'To Do' List

"Why is it, what we want to do, often isn't the thing that we do, do? So why do we do what we do, and how do we get to do, what we want to do!"

The photos came in, the jury could no longer pretend to be out, the evidence was clear, I officially looked how I felt. Miss Fatty Boombar will you stand up please, yes you did it, with Sara Lee cheese cakes, in the lounge, with the aid of a fork, you got fat.

Fortunately for me I was just beginning to understand the value of values, as a Life Coach I already knew how important they were but I was now on the verge of a spectacular break through, prompted by photographic evidence of a less than satisfactory spread and a book.

I was doing some intensive value work of my own in regards to answering the above question when a text came through from my sister in New Zealand. Lynley had been recommended a book called An End to Overeating" by David Kessler. I bought it and have now lost 15 kilos. Lynley read it and it was interesting for her but it didn't do anything for her. The recent earthquake where she lives did that for her, to date she has now lost 10 kilos.

What was the common dominator for both of us, our values shifted? Different events triggered a shift in our values order, hers was an event that was spectacular enough to rock her boat and my values shift was a deliberate act based on information that made sense to me. I finally got it, even though I wanted to be slimmer I didn't have a specific value for being slim on my internal values list, I had one for being comfortable which played out by overeating.

As soon as I put Flabuless (I wanted to coin my own term) on my list and yes I deliberately wrote my list out, my results changed dramatically. You cannot be a light weight if you do not have a heavy weight value for being flabuless, and you will remain a heavy weight if you have a heavy weight value for (in my case) escapism by overeating. If we are not getting the results we desire, then we need to look to our values.

We can't do success in any area if we do not think it is important enough to do. Our values are what we believe is important and we do what is important. Understanding the nature of values, what yours actually are and how you can utilize them to transform results will wake up your inner winner and put success right back on your to do list.
