QANTAS has just stoped all their A380 aircraft service after one of its airplane made quite a scary emergency landing in Singapore, Alan Joyce has announced, carrier's chief executive. He also said that none of the 433 passengers or 26 crew were injured when the engine of the A380 airplane exploded over Indonesia, making it to turn back.
The company decided to suspend all A380 takeoffs until they will have enough information about what went wrong with QF32. The services of A380 will be suspended until all the safety requirements will be met.
The explosion occurred over the Indonesian island of Batam immediately after QF32 took off from Singapore's Changi Airport this morning. Qantas added that the Airbus A380 plane's second engine had "shut down". Mr Joyce stated that the passengers left the aircraft in Singapore and would be brought to the nearest hotel. Qantas will operate a replacement aircraft that will fly to Singapore tonight and will depart tomorrow with all passengers on board. Company representative said that the investigation will take as long as needed until everything will be cleared up. He also added that the A380 was a really great aircraft, without having any problems for two years since it was bought.
An engine failure was one that the company stuff has never seen before. The problem might be an uncontained engine failure, but it's to early for anybody to make any speculations. Investigations with the manufacturer Airbus and the manufacturer of the engine Rolls Royce will take place. Exactly this aircraft was the first A380 for Qantas and was bought two years ago. The airline did not have any previous concerns about the engines. For more details go to News in Trend
