Pain in the tail

QuickBooks may well be the premier small business software around...but I have yet to discover the value in it. From the interminable registration process when I had to type in or tell someone the same information several times to the most difficult program access I have experienced...I am about ready to go back to Excel and Word and do things 'manually' myself. It seems they make the process of using the software so complicated that it is hardly worth the effort. Guess I will try a bit more and see if I just admit I wasted money.

Windows 7 compatibility with 2008 QB Pro

Recently upgraded to Windows 7 after reading all the QB reviews insuring it would be compatible with my 2008 QuickBooks Pro. Well, that is not entirely true. I initially had trouble opening QB, until I answered a series of questions regarding my prior operating system. QB then opened and appeared to function...entering time, creating invoices, receiving payments, etc. Then I tried to enter my vehicle mileage which resulted in QB freezing. I called technical support and after going through a series of steps (validating data and restarting my computer), the problem was not resolved. They then informed me that the only solution was to upgrade to 2010 QB, which they promised would be completely compatible with Windows 7. I'm a bit reluctant as they said 2008 QB was also compatible. I have not fully checked out which features of QB will not work. The 'enter vehicle mileage' is my only verified failure at this time.

Since this is my business, I will upgrade. But if you are running an older version of QB, I would NOT upgrade to Windows 7 until you plan to replace QB. Most of my clients will be forced to update in 2011 due to payroll, so I will upgrade them to Windows 7 at that time.
