Quilts and Coverlets for my Guestroom
The day I decided to redo my guestroom turned out to be extremely challenging. I remember, as a child, my grandmother sitting in her big easy chair, her needle in hand, and her quilting squares, all around the floor at her feet. One by one, she would take each of those small squares and sew them together by hand. Gone are those days of such tedious work. Although, some women do have quilting parties, even in this modern day, spending hours and days putting together these beautiful personal masterpieces, I found that with my busy schedule, time just did not allow that luxury for me.
I wanted my guestroom to display an old fashioned feel and take my guests back to those nostalgic days once they entered the room. I searched online first and found many sites regarding quilts and coverlets and ideas on redecorating this room. I found many style's, sizes, and colors, but I really was taken with the roses design in pinks and reds to get that old fashioned feeling. I wanted a quilt that reflected my personal touch and looked like I had just sewn and pieced it together yesterday.
The quilt I chose has tiny red rose buds in each square, along with larger pink petals of roses and tiny green leaves strewn throughout. I chose a soft pink, 100% cotton coverlet to go under the quilt which fit quite nicely. The coverlets come in all sizes, colors and costs, so when you are searching, you will easily be able to make a decision once you pick out the quilt you like. I liked these coverlets so much that I chose a couple of different colors so that I could change them up when I desired to make the bed look a little different from that last time my guests visited.
Once the quilts and coverlets arrived I was so excited to get started on this redecorating project. I started by painting the room all a bright white to go with the white armoire, white dresser, and makeup table I had purchased earlier. I then hung my soft white and frilly Pricilla curtains on the two large cottage style windows. Much to my delight, going through the many boxes in my garage that had once belonged to my Grandmother I had found a large beautiful woven throw rug that has large red roses galore. Somehow my Grandmother seemed to know that I would be the grandchild to put this to use someday. Thanks Grandma!
The quilt is more beautiful than I could imagine and so fitting to that nostalgic feeling, taking me back in time to the good ole days'. I think I even shed a few tears. The quilts came with shams in the same rose pattern and they fit perfectly on the king size down pillows I had purchased. The skirting is a soft pink to match the pink rose petals of the quilt. I did end up purchasing an alternate skirting in a light green color to match the leaves, just in case I wanted to change the bedding up later with a different look.
I couldn't be happier now that I look at my accomplishment redecorating this guest room with the new quilt and coverlets. I find myself sitting in the room now to apply my makeup each morning and enjoying the solitude and nostalgia the room gives me. Move over guests!
