RN: A Bright Career Choice

RN: A Bright Career Choice

If you want job security in the future, there is only one career choice that I could think of, and it's the nursing career, specifically that of a registered nurse (RN). According to experts, there are more than half a million nursing jobs that are open in the country at present, and they will remain open for the next few years. There are more than two million RNs in the country, but they still say that there is a big shortage of RNs alone in the healthcare industry. Studying now to become an RN will guarantee you a job once you graduate, and not only that, you will have a job that is also highly compensated in cash and in kind (benefits). Are you now convinced in pursuing an RN career? If you are, read further and let me guide you on your way to a bright career.

The first step to becoming an RN is by getting your RN career degree (BSN), which usually lasts for four years. The program will deal with a variety of general subjects (math and English) and science subjects like chemistry, physiology, biology, basic nursing subjects, etc. Before you can enroll in a university or nursing school, you need to take and pass the Nursing Entrance Test (NET) first. The exam will gauge your knowledge and understanding of subjects like math, English, general knowledge, and science. Perhaps to test if you are ready to take on a course as difficult as a BSN course. You will handle the care of people, what is more difficult than that, right?

Although the traditional way of studying to become an RN is through a brick and mortar school, different institutions are now offering them through distance education. This convenient way to study is beneficial to people who are too busy to study and go to school, like working moms who wish to switch careers. Before, it's hard to balance family life, work, and school, not anymore for people who want to become RNs. Academic subjects are taken online on virtual classroom, but clinical practice is done in a hospital institution near you that's accredited by the school you will enroll in. Can you imagine the surprise on the faces of your work colleagues when you tell them you will graduate from your RN course (once your graduation day arrives); when they didn't even see you miss work?

After you graduate, you will need to pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses or the NCLEX-RN first to get your license, and then you can begin your career as an RN. What's great is that RNs are not only limited to work in hospitals, they have the option to work in clinics, offices (as the company nurse), retirement homes, in private homes, and a lot more. RN courses are not the only ones offered online, there are also CNA careers online education and LPN careers online schooling. The two I mentioned are also nursing careers; training is only shorter, from 6 months to 18 months. To learn more about how to earn your RN career degree, click here.
