Rabbit Care And Training Secrets

Rabbits are truly lovable. These little creatures may look innocent and harmless; but don't be too sure. They can be aggressive, particularly if they feel that they need to defend themselves from something or from someone.

I needed to learn about rabbit care and training secrets. I bought a book that teaches these things. I adopted a pair of rabbits and I haven't established relationship with them yet because they just arrived in the house a few days ago. I felt like I was in over my head with having these two new pets and not knowing how to give them the care that they need and deserve.

One of the things that I learned from the book is that I have to be watchful whenever I feed them; it's because in the wild, they are used to fight for the sake of getting food. My rabbits are still untrained, that's why they have the tendency to bite me whenever I feed them. Maybe, they were thinking that I will grab the food from them.

The trick I used to take away the feeling of scarcity in them is to place their food into different bowls. That way, they won't see the bowl as their territory. There are also times that I would place a small amount of food in my hand and feed them on it. It shall give them the thought that I am giving them food. I was not there to grab it from them. I would also place food around their cage so that they would feel that there is abundance of food and they don't need to fight for it.

Now to avoid being bitten whenever I take my hands inside their cage to fetch them, I would always approach them from above eye level. That way, they won't see me as a predator. And because they would know that I am not there to prey on them, they won't position themselves to make an attack.

These problems however with rabbits will only be experienced during the first weeks. Their attitude will change and they will be tamer once you are already familiar with them.
