Breasley was apprenticed to Pat Quinlan and was well undersize for his age. He was 14 when he rode his first Melbourne winner in 1928. He Married in 1935 on November 5th on Melbourne cup night.

Breasley during his career rode a record of 5 Caulfield Cups, 1942-45 consecutively on Tranquil Star, Skipton, Counsel and St Fairy; then on Peshawar in 1952. He earned the tag 'King Of Caulfield'. The 5 Caulfield Cups he won is still unbeaten even today.

During his elite career, Breasley had ridden 3,251 winners which includes over 1,000 in Australia and 2,161 in Britain including some for the Queen and Queen Mother.

In 1950 in his first year in England he rode 83 winners and then 79 in the next year. Whilst he was in England he rode over 100 winners each and every year from 1955 to 1964. Breasley won the Champion Jockey in 1957 and then continuously from 1961-63.

In 1958 Breasley won the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Ballymoss in 1958, and at the age of 50 he won the Epsom Derby for the first time on Santa Claus in 1964, and then again on Charlottown in 1966. Breasley stated the happiest moment whilst in England was winning the Epsom Derby in 1964 on Santa Claus. He was 50 then and was called by people the Galloping Godfather. He stated the derby is the greatest race in the world and every jockey wants to win it. In that particular Derby there were 7 other Australian jockeys trying to win the race. When he won the 2nd Derby he was the oldest jockey at the time to win the event.

After 42 years as a race jockey Breasley retired from racing and in 1968 started horse training. He bought the South Hatch Property in Epsom. He trained in England, France, Barbados and the USA prior to making his way back to Melbourne Australia and settling down. He retired in 1990.

He was away from Australia for almost 42 years. Racing Victoria struck the Scobie Breasley medal and is awarded each year to Victorias most outstanding Jockey.

Breasley was the first man to be inducted into the Racings Hall Of Fame.
