Radiator Repair: Eeek! My Radiator Hose Burst!

Help! The hose just burst in my radiator and colored water started pouring out

. What do I do to get to the nearest radiator repair shop? Whatever you do, dont drive your car! If the radiator has lost its water and coolant, the fastest way to burn up your engine would be to drive your car. So, call the tow truck for a ride to the nearest radiator service shop! In addition to keeping the water and coolant level where it needs to be, a radiator service will prevent trouble in your car's cooling system by inspecting for leaks and replacing old or damaged hoses.

Check the hoses!

Unless your vehicle is brand new, its a good idea to regularly check all the hoses under the hood of your vehicle, whether youve been having trouble or not. For instant panic, theres nothing like having a radiator hose burst while youre driving, resulting in a shower of steam that is frightening and dangerous. If a vacuum hose cracks, the sudden loss of vacuum can stop your vehicle in the middle of traffic. Follow a regular schedule of radiator service, along with other vehicle maintenance issues, so that any cracked or damaged hoses can be replaced, saving you frustration, and taking care of a small problem before it gets any bigger.

* If you find a hose thats soft and squishy, bulging, hard or brittle, cracked, leaking, or marked with a whitish deposit where stuff has leaked and dried, replace it immediately before it breaks.

* If you find a hose thats collapsed when the engine is cold but springs back when you remove the pressure cap, the cap or coolant recovery system not the hose is at fault.

If you notice that your vehicle is starting to overheat and you suspect that the radiator hose is collapsing or leaking, park in a safe place away from traffic. Call the tow truck to get you to the nearest auto shop for an emergency radiator repair!
