Re-think Your Approach to Analytics

There is no shortage of tools out there to make your life easier, the hard part is actually finding the right ones that suits you and your companies needs. In fact, it isn't that much of a stretch to say that the number of digital analytics data sources and tools available will probably double this year alone.

So why are so many of us still relying on our gut feelings and a load of Google Analytics reports to do the job? I think the problem lies in transitioning from online to digital.

Beyond this, the data deluge is coming. Previously, you monitored your website, but times are changing. Now you've got to concern yourself with your website and a growing host of other things, such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and the burgeoning mobile web.

A lack of understanding leads many organizations to believe they can wash their hands of analytics solutions soon after they have bought them, they're there and that's what matters. Realistically, a lot of work needs to go into defining the questions and understanding the best way to use data.

Time for a change

If you want to succeed with your analytics and manage your data successfully, you need to give it time to develop. The more data you collect and the more stats you measure, the better understanding you'll have and it will enable you to target the right people and manage your campaigns, but this is a long process.

Stay organised. It's no good if your data is spread over a thousand different files and never being looked at, essentially you'll be analysing nothing!

Keep up-to-date with the latest developments on web analytics and sales lead generation tools. Take a look at what is on offer, and don't be scared to sign up for trials.

Google is a good tool to use for monitoring your website traffic, but it can only go so far. The endless amounts of statistics it provides are great, but what's the point in half of them?

Technology is becoming more and more advanced; so much so that some platforms allow you to see and track companies on your website, in real time. Wouldn't it be great if you could see who was on your website, when they were on your website and what they were looking at?

With technology like this available, it would be silly not to invest in it. It will enable you to target and talk to the people who are really interested in what you offer. Analytics could soon be on its way out.
