Real India resides in villages and poor people are its strength : Rahul Gandhi

Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi while addressing a rally in Neemuch(MP), said that the UPA government had fulfilled all its promises made to the people. He said, "We had made only one promise to you; that promise was if we came to power, we will work for the poor, Dalits and backwards of this country. We have fulfilled it." Congress General Secretary said that government launched the largest ever Employment Guarantee Programme for the poor and passed a law for it. He said that NDA forgot the farmers but UPA government made many policies for their welfare. He said, "UPA government waived their loan worth Rs 70,000 crores and we gave back their money."

Citing the work done for the tribal peoples he said that UPA ensured that tribal people get their rights over the forestland. Congress General Secretary said that Mid-day meal for school going children were another big achievement of the UPA government. "We know that the children of poor families can not go to school and so we launched Mid-day meal," he said.

He said that during the last five years Central Government has become cash rich but bringing the fund to the poor was still a big problem. He said, "This is a matter of great concern that the money sent to you by the Centre does reach to you". He said, "This is your money, this does not belong to Centre or State government."

He criticized BJP for India shining and said that only cities or affluent one were shining in NDA rule. "India will only shine when every poor will get his due in the development process. India can not shine just by making a slogan in Delhi," he said. He said that he would not give them any slogan like that; rather he will only say that every person should get participation in the development process.

He accused state BJP government for not implementing central schemes like NREGS. He said, "There are around 2.5 lakhs job card in the Neemuch district but I have come to know that only four thousand people have got the job." He said that he went to Bundelkhand but he saw schools closed there. He said, "Villages are empty, people have migrated to Delhi or Mumbai. There are no roads and water supply."

Congress General Secretary said that whenever he visited a Poor man's house, Opposition made fun of him because they did not go to the villages. "For me, India lives in villages, not in cities. The real strength of India is its poor people. But they say, forget the poor. One India is shining and other is languishing," he said.

He said that he did not see India in segmentation. "There is only one India for me and its development is my motto," he said.

He criticized BJP on terrorism and said that fighting terrorism is our goal but we had to fight it along with poverty. He asked, "Are terrorist roaming in village, or are they standing on the tree? Are they standing near schools to not allow the Mid-day meal?" So there should be a complete strategy to fight terrorism.

He concluded his speech by appealing to people to vote for Congress, so that it could work for the poor and the Youth.
