If you always have to ask people to repeat themselves, or if you always have the TV and phone at the highest volume, it is best to take an exam to see if you need a hearing aid. Once you get one, you will likely notice the improvement right away.

Another reason to get a hearing aid is to reduce your chance of falling. Many studies have shown that older people who cannot hear very well, but do not have any equipment to reduce the issue, fall more often than those whose ears retain their full ability or have a hearing aid. Therefore, if you want to decrease the risk that you will fall and hurt yourself, possibly breaking bones, you should look into getting a device to improve how well your ears work.

Additionally, many studies have shown that people who do not get the device their ear needs are more likely to get dementia than those whose ears work fine. In fact, the less you can hear, the higher your chance of getting dementia. If you want to avoid this issue in the near future, you should talk to your doctor to find out how well you can hear. If it turns out you have lost some of this ability, you should look into getting a device that can solve the issue. Otherwise, you may be facing some health problems along with the regular issues that stem from slowly going deaf, such as the inability to understand those around you.

Of course, get a hearing aid is not a surefire way to avoid these consequences. But if you want to do everything possible to reduce the odds of these issues, you should get a device for your ear. Simply being able to understand people around you better is worth it, so taking advantage of the other benefits should be just an extra bonus.
