Reasons To Go Green
Most commonly, everyone assumes that going green is only about the environment
. While saving the environment is a huge part of the movement, there are more reasons - most of them personal benefits - to going green that can leave a positive impact on your life and possibly someone elses.
First, we'll talk about money. Everyone needs it, and no one seems to have enough of it. With a plethora of resources in the green movement today, many of them are meant to save you cash. Thermal and electric solar panels, low wattage CFL light bulbs, and whole-house fans which replace your air conditioner are some of the major players in the fight for a place in your home, and all of them aimed at lowering your monthly electricity bill to almost nothing. Even more money can be saved by lowering your water use around the house, cutting down on your driving and switching to public transportation or bike travel, and recycling empty bottles, cans, and paper at a recycle station.
If going green to save money isn't a good enough reason for you, perhaps your health is. Many don't realize that most household products and cosmetics contain harmful or toxic chemicals that last even after their use. Human skin being the largest organ also absorbs around 60 percent of the products that are used on it on a daily basis which can lower your immune system or make you sick. By choosing to use green plant-based products around the home for cleaning and on your skin with cosmetics and lotions, you're lowering or even eliminating all of the problems that could be caused by use of toxic and unnatural petrochemicals.
Going further into the health benefits of the green movement is your food selection. When you buy non-organic and fatty foods, you're consuming any unnatural chemicals and pesticides that were used during the farming and processing of those foods. Chemicals in these foods can cause birth defects in newborns, lower your immune system, or even cause diseases over time. Organic foods are grown without additives and preservatives, and without harmful pesticides. Most of the time, the food will also taste more delicious and be fresher due to how many steps are being taken out of the growing and production process. Many grocery stores carry organic foods now, but you may also buy from your local farmers market, which supports your community as well.
Overall, the happiness and satisfaction levels in your life will also improve in addition to the above benefits. When you start making positive changes in your life that not only affect you, but the quality of life for others around the world and the environment, you'll realize that your attitude will also improve right alongside your quality of life. These are the fundamental reasons to go green above anything else. The green movement is more important than just protecting the environment, it's about protecting and promoting a healthy, satisfying life.
