Reasons To Use Vertical Leap Training In Order To Get Stronger And Jump Higher

Many people are confused about this particular formula:


Velocity X Force = Power

This does not work for vertical jump the way people think it does.

While you might want to inform me that nothing could be further from the truth, I have the ability to show you that my assertions are correct, and that you might be confused about how vertical leap works.


Let us say there are two catapults we are working with.

Catapult 1 will swing at 30 mph, and has a 100 pound strength capacity.

Catapult 2 swings at the exact same speed, but will hold up to 500 pounds worth of strenght.

Both catapults are throwing a small golf ball.

From which catapult will the golf ball be thrown at a greater distance? That would be Catapult 2, correct? No, it's not correct.

The light weight of the gold ball means that there is no difference in speed or distance. It does not matter that one catapult is stronger than the other.

As soon as you have enough strength to get the fastest swing speed, your vertical jump will not benefit from more strength than that.

Let us use the same analogy of the catapults, but change it to a 90-pound cannonball so we are using more weight. Now which one will win out and throw the object at a greater distance?

Catapult 1 is simply not strong enough to get the cannonball to 30mph, since the cannonball is providing too much resistance and slowing it down.

With Catapult 2, on the other hand, it can handle the weight of the cannonball a lot better and get it closer to 30 mph.

What do I mean by this?

Contraction time can benefit from strength. Even though your contraction times might be a lot faster, getting over your own weight resistance can take more strength then you might have.


Let us examine the possibility of moving without weight resistance. You would, naturally, get better contraction times, in normal circumstances you will need to increase your strength in order to overcome your own weight resistance! You can benefit from this, however, since you can know for sure that your vertical jump will increase if you undergo rigorous strength training, provided you do not gain much more overall weight. Contraction times are not a problem with many athletes, but they might not have enough strength to get over their resistance.

Let's prove this point again. You are now holding a cannonball. I instruct you to jump. You would, of course, encounter a drastically reduced contraction speed, especially since you are also directly fighting gravity on top of your own weight! Getting a good strength base is necessary for any athlete to succeed.
