Reasons to Consider Real Estate in Wallingford
, CT
As one of the largest towns in terms of size and population in the state, Wallingford is located along the Quinnipiac River and has five neighborhoods: Wallingford Center, East Wallingford, Quinnipiac, Tracy, and Yalesville. Wallingford is the 23rd largest community in the state, at 39.8 square miles and with a population of almost 45,000. As a commuter community for those who work in New Haven, Meriden, or Hartford, Wallingford has traditional suburban real estate and many other assets for buyers.
Wallingford began as a village in 1667 for 38 planters and later grew as the result of industry, including pewter, Britannia, and silver. The silver industry, in particular, spilled over from neighboring Meriden, known as the "Silver City." Although manufacturing has diminished in, but not disappeared from, Wallingford, the town is now the location of many large industrial parks, including Barnes, Casimir Pulaski, and Wharton Brook. Companies in these areas cover a large range of industries, although medical, service, technology, and metal manufacturing all have a distinct presence.
Even with a large amount of businesses in town, Wallingford is still a location for commuters. Almost midway between Hartford and New Haven, the town is 30 minutes south of the former and 20 minutes north of the latter. The town, as well, is a short drive from Meriden, Waterbury, and Middletown. Interstate 91, U.S. Highway Route 15, and state routes 15, 68, 71, and 150 all pass through points in Wallingford. Additionally, the town is accessible by public transportation. CT Transit New Haven runs a bus through and up to Meriden, and Wallingford also has its own local CT Transit route, a bus that loops around town during weekdays. Amtrak has a stop in Wallingford, and the station is used by commuters and by travelers.
Wallingford Electric Company is another factor influencing homebuyers and businesses. Providing electricity to all Wallingford real estate, Wallingford Electric serves the entire town, and its rates are a third lower than those of other state companies.
With a combination of older and modern homes and condos, Wallingford real estate has plenty to offer: a variety of properties, affordable electricity, nearby businesses, an ideal location for commuters, and public transportation.
