Known as the garden of England, Kent is a popular place to live
.
New homes for sale in Kent is desirable for many reasons. As one of the Home Counties, Kent enjoys good links with the capital. During the Roman invasion a road network was constructed to connect Dover, Lympne and Richborough with London. It's so close to the capital that it forms part of the London commuter belt - a metropolitan area surrounding London in which it remains possible to commute to the city for work. In Dartford and Sevenoaks over 25% of employed people work in the capital.
The county has a rich heritage which is another reason why it's such a fantastic place to live. Its location between London and the rest of Europe has lead to its involvement in many conflicts. During World War II east Kent was known as Hell Fire Corner. In fact, France is so close that on a clear day it can be seen from Folkestone and Dover. Much earlier, during the 18th century, the county was dominated by wars with France.
The abundance of orchards and hop gardens has lead to Kent being named the garden of England, despite a recent drop in agriculture.
Kent has fantastic educational opportunities. Almost a quarter of all grammar schools remaining in the UK are based in Kent. The county also boasts three universities - Canterbury Christ Church University, University of Kent and University of Greenwich, which is a London university with campuses in Kent.
It's such a popular county that Country Life Magazine named it the third best place to live in the country last year. In an investigation by The BBC to determine whether Kent or Sussex was the better place to live, Kent won, beating Sussex for its exceptionally high quality of life.
According to figures from The BBC, the most expensive place to live is Sevenoaks, with an average price of 377,663. The cheapest place to live in Kent, on average, is Thanet. The average price of properties there is just 169,490.
