Recommended Golf Courses in Hampshire
With so many wonderful courses all over Hampshire it can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to choosing a venue. Each course is unique in its own way, but if you are looking to play a course, or even planning a golfing break, here are some of the best.
Bramshaw golf club claims to be the oldest in the county and is in fact home to two courses. The first of these is the Forest Course and this was built on New Forest Heathland in 1865. All the unique hazards of the New Forest are still here including ponies and deer and this is a top class course in a beautiful setting.
Bramshaw's Manor Course was finished in 1970 and is a modern parkland course with tight, undulating greens which are a test for anyone. Overall Bramshaw is an excellent choice to start your Hampshire golf adventure.
Hayling Island is another popular course, but not just because of its location. As a links course this provides a whole host of different tests and the wind here can become very strong at all times of the year. Unlike some links courses, drainage is very good and the greens and fairways are cared for to an impeccable standard.
Alresford golf course is immensely popular, both for the quality of the fairways and greens and for the fact that it offers some stunning views of the Hampshire Countryside. This is an award winning course which receives excellent reviews and many people comment on how good a condition the surfaces are in, no matter what the weather or time of year. Regular outside' tournaments are held here, a fact that is a testament to its quality.
Another course with spectacular views is Hockley which overlooks the historic city of Winchester. There is much more to this course besides great scenery however, and there are some of the best kept greens and fairways in the whole of the county.
Staying in this locality, the Royal Winchester is one of the most popular courses with visitors. This downland course is well renowned for providing excellent all year round golf with testing holes that will suit any standard of golfer. The Royal Winchester is also known for its facilities including a welcoming clubhouse which is open to all.
Portsmouth Golf Course is known as being one of the more testing courses in the county and as a result, this may be suited to the more experienced players. For a picturesque course, you may want to try Liphook, with its rolling heathland near the Sussex border which is set in some stunning countryside.
All of the courses named above are open to visitors and societies by prior arrangement. There are excellent clubhouse facilities in each, including superb restaurants and bars which are open to everyone.
Hampshire is home to a diverse range of parkland and links courses and golfers of all abilities are amply catered for here. These are just some of the beautiful courses waiting for you in Hampshire.
