Of course, if the towns people didn't vote to have this service and tecycled their own yard waste by routing all the organic material they rake up in their yard into a 4x4 bin built of spare lumber hanging around the garage or cellar, it could solve a major problem in your city or town.

Leaves in the Fall or in the Spring cleanup when left through Winter can easily be placed in your newly constructed "compost bin". Layering the leaves with a little loam or soil around your yard will reap a goldmine once it receives a little rain occasionally or hose watered once in a while. Leftover earthworms after a family fishing expedition would find themselves at home in your compost bin. They would churn the mixture and help break it down and save you some work. Table scraps such as lettuce, corn peelings and even hair cuttings can also be used to enrich your compost. Even discarded banana peels can be added. Nothing has to be wasted to end up at your tow's land fill. One thing to consider is if oak leaves are used to be part of your compost bin, they will decompose much mor slowly than maple and others.

As with all good things, they take time and it will take some of this to compost your organic wastes, but once you begin the process it will virtually go on endlessly. You may have to change your routine a little but you and the whole family will quickly grow accustomed. It is a good idea to have a swinging door at the front of your compost bin in order to access the lower portion where it will be more completely decomposed.

You may need to fill a bucket or wheebarrow to line some of your newly planted vegetables or roses and the added door will make this very convenient. Probably one of the best uses for the composted material itself is for covering some of the "dead spots" of your lawn. You can be sure that your lawn will become the envy of your neighbors. Your lawn will absorb more water during heavy rains preventing water puddling in your yard. This is one of many benefits, beside all the money you will save. You will not need as great an amount of watering as you required in the past. The earthworms you may have placed in the bin when you started may now have multiplied 10-fold and can be used for the fishing enthusiast without loss of the original. Talk about saving money.
