Reliable Callaway FT-iZ Fairway Woods
When it comes to creating technology-leading fairway woods Callaway sets the bar. The new FT-iZ Fairway Woods only add to the legacy, with unprecedented distance, stability, consistency and feel in every shot. Polar Weighting localizes most of the club head's weight in face and the back power source, producing the highest levels of ball speed consistency, club head stability and feels to increase linear acceleration of the golf ball. The Aerodynamic Body Design helps decrease drag for higher swing speeds. Fusion Technology uses multiple materials that allow for extreme weight placement to ensure the optimal combination of performance and feel with stunning looks.
The FT-iZ fairway wood features Fusion Technology in its multi material construction with each component individually designed to complement the whole club. The crown of the FT-i9 is made from compression moulded carbon fibre and weighs just nine grams. This has allowed Callaway to redistribute the weight to the clubface and the rear of the club in a system called polar weighting. By concentrating the weight in these key areas the FT-iZ can deliver an extremely high Moment of Inertia (MOI) making it one of the most stable clubs Callaway have produced. With the weight at the back and rear of the club Callaway's engineers have been free to give the centre of gravity a precise location low in the club head to promote the ball speed and spin that contributes to consistently long trajectories.
One of the potential downsides of this club is what I loved so much, the design. Users are calling the triangular head-shape distracting and unnecessary, but I felt it made the club look great and really gave me an extra bit of power on my swings. My only negative reaction was to the excessive amounts of feedback you got from the club, which I felt was an unnecessary addition to this otherwise productive wood. However, I felt that the large sweet spot really made it hard to miss with this club, causing me to give it a cannot-miss rating, literally.
Overall, Callaway FT-iZ Fairway Wood offers unprecedented distance, stability, consistency and feels in every shot. Polar weighting localizes most of the club head's weight in face and the back power source, producing the highest levels of ball speed consistency, club head stability and feel to increase linear acceleration of the golf ball. The aerodynamic body design helps decrease drag for higher swing speeds and ultra-thin VFT Technology creates hotter ball speeds for longer distance.
Golfers say: "Consistent, predictable ball flight; accuracy is a specialty; reliable distance output; well-struck shots deliver crisp response at impact; club head is stable throughout the swing; overall club design seems to help slicers eradicate the banana ball." "This fairway wood performed very well as the Callaway FT-iZ driver does. The sound and feel at impact was lovely and despite the weight being lower and further back in the head, the flight was very good too. We weren't completely bowled over by the head shape but that is very much a matter of personal opinion and the FT-iZ is by no means the worst looking fairway wood available. Performance is everything and we struggled to find fault in that department and we'd certainly rate the FT-iZ as one of the best composite fairway woods on the market today."
