I know what you're thinking, you don't get dents on bumpers, right, well I'm afraid to say they are not as rare as you think. In most collisions where the bumper is involved the impact only leaves a scuff or a grouping of scratches and chips on the impact point. But if the collision is hard enough and on the right section of the bumper (usually on the corners where there is no real structural support behind the plastic bumper) then the bumper will fold inwards and leave a large and nasty looking dent.

If you manage to get one of these types of dents on the bumper, whatever you do don't go straight to a body shop to have it fixed, try and remove it yourself first, it will be a hell of a lot cheaper and you might just be surprised with the finish.

If you're unsure how to fix it yourself read on I will give you a basic guide. First you need to have a hair drier, some cold water and a few clothes. Put the hair drier on full blast and heat up the dent on the bumper, try not to blister the paint work, the surface should be hot but still touchable without giving yourself a blister. By heating up the bumper you are making the plastic more pliable to move. When the bumper is at the right temperature place the cloths in your hand and get behind the dent on the bumper and slowly push out the dent when you have the dent out as much as it will go throw the cold water over the repair, this will rapidly cool down the bumper and not allow it to go back to the dented position. Once the bumper is cooled stand back and admire your handy work. If it's not initially out take it to a body shop or smart repair service it will cost you a lot less now that you have removed the majority of the dent.
