you to get pimples on buttocks, then you might believe that you are experiencing butt acne. This is not the case, however, because acne is directly linked to sebum production by the skin oil glands but there are very few of these sebaceous glands located in the buttocks area. Skin oil glands are concentrated in the face and upper trunk areas of the body. Any pimples on your butt area are just mimicking acne, they are actually the outcome of two different types of skin infections, carbuncles and folliculitis.

Folliculitis occurs when a hair follicle becomes inflamed and cause shallow bumps filled with pus to emerge. This problem could occur because of an ingrown hair, a bacterial infection or as of friction from garments which is very close-fitting or restrictive. Carbuncles are an infection deeper in the skin and feel like the painful cysts which acne can inflict. The treatment for pimples on buttocks is dependent upon which of the two skin conditions is being dealt with. Folliculitis will most often disappear on its own but when it doesn't, a benzoyl peroxide wash is suggested to destroy microorganisms and dry out the skin.

If the problem remains after the benzoyl peroxide has been used, then an antibiotic cream should be used. Carbuncles skin infections are treated in a more intensive manner owing to their location. A physician can puncture the carbuncle with a view to let it drain and then disinfect and bandage the buttocks. It is not advisable to try this procedure in a non sterile environment as that might cause the infection to worsen. The physician may also prescribe an antibiotic to be taken orally. There are many diverse factors that can cause pimples on the buttocks.

One pimple causing factor is that the buttocks are the place which are under pressure whenever a person sits down. This can also cause the area to heat up and become clammy. Hot and sweaty environments are bacteria breeding grounds. This reason is accentuated in people that are overweight and in those whose jobs keep them seated for long periods of time. Those who have an immune system that is compromised through illness or are taking medications like drugs for cancer are more prone to pimple infections on the butt area. The buttocks might also become infected with anal bacteria.

There are some measures that could be taken to prevent pimples from occurring on buttocks. Keep the butt area well ventilated and do not sit down for prolonged periods. People who sit while working must try to rise up and walk occasionally. Wash the butt area after sitting on the toilet and make sure that the toilet seat is clean. Eating a healthy diet that has loads of fresh vegetables and fish will provide the body the antioxidants and Omega-3 fatty acids that it requires in order to effectively fight against infections on the body including those causing pimples on buttocks.
