As we all know that car repair is quite an expensive affair and can burn a big hole in our pocket

. Hence, we are all looking for a few tips that can help us to repair our car without shelling out a lot of money and without having much of technical skills. The tools you need:

Although every car has different features, they more or less use similar nuts and bolts for common repairs. Here is a list of tools that you generally need to repair a car

Adjustable wrench


Torque wrench

Socket and ratchet set

Pliers

Phillips and flat head screwdrivers

Broken or worn drive belts: Keep a check on your drive belts. Try and indicate whether they have worn out or not. If you see that the car is squealing when starting it on, you should know that it is because of the drive belts. Check if there is any crack, wear or looseness in the belts. If so, consider replacing them immediately. However, if it is loose, then consider tightening them instead of replacement.

Check battery and alternator: The alternator is the device that works in associate with the battery to produce power for electrical parts of the vehicle. On the other hand, battery is the giant black box that supplies initial power to the alternator. If you find that your car is not powering on, then you must know that the possible culprits are the battery and the alternator. Test and inspect the both to find if either one is dead. If any one of them is not measuring out enough power with the multimeter, then you must be assured to replace them. To keep the battery in a good condition, it is important to regularly clean them with baking soda, water, and elbow grease.


Tools that you need to replace the battery and the alternator wrenches, socket set, multimeter, and screw driver.

Exterior coolant leaks: If after driving your car and parking it, if you notice a pool of green, yellow, or orange liquid on the ground, then you must know that there is a leak. To fix the leak on your own, all you need to do is to unclamp the leaking hose, install a new one, and then again put on the clamp. However, if you cannot find the leak on the exterior, then it must be inside the radiator. To fix this problem, its best to take your car into a shop until you have more experience.

Car tire repair: Always check the tire pressure. Usually tires are damaged due to loss of air pressure from slow leak to dangerous blowout. If the tire is punctured less than inch in length in the tread, then it can be repaired using various techniques patches and plugs. On the other hand, if puncture is upto in diameter, then repair it by using a method plug. Remember that patches are more suitable for cuts and splits or abrasions on the tires.
