Rugs serve to make your home look beautiful. They are quite utilitarian too. Imagine putting your feet down on a warm foot rug at the side of your bed rather than the cold floor on a winter's night. You also have to take great care of your rugs in order for them to last. Rugs go through wear and tear depending on how much they are used and where they are placed in the house. Besides cleaning them, you will also be faced with the task of needing to repair them once in a while.
One good way to be prepared for rug repairs is to always keep the samples that you were shown when you first set out to buy the rug. You can then simply cut out the shape needed and put that in place of the spoilt section. When you are faced with a repair job here is what you can do. To begin with, use a very sharp knife and cut around the edges that have been damaged. Its always a good idea to cut out a piece that is square in shape. This makes replacing an easier job. Once done, take of the carpet and set it aside. Next, buy some carpet tape and cut out strips to cover the hole that has been made. Apply only as many as you need. Anything more, will make the carpet look lumpy. This is especially important when you have a cushion backed rug.
Use the piece of carpet that you had cut out as a measure to get yourself a new piece. Once you have it, place it firmly in the empty space which now has a bottom of the tape. Press firmly in place and then put some heavy weight on it for a short while. Allow the rug to set for a while and you have a brand new rug to show off.
Repairing a rug can easily be done at home. This of course depends on how extensive the damage is. For rugs that are expensive in terms of pricing and material, it is best to get the experts to take a look at them. The price involved would be worth it.
