Replace Your Kitchen Faucet: Diy Guide

Gather the Equipment

You will need a range of tools and equipment before you are able to change a kitchen faucet. Obviously, the first thing to choose is your new faucet, so try to find one that has the same number of holes as your sink and one with a style that matches the surrounding appliances.

You will also need:

Penetrating oil

An adjustable wrench

Teflon tape

Basin wrench

Old rags or towels

A bucket

Prepare the Area

Once you have everything in place, the next stage is to clear the cabinet under the sink so that you have a good area to work in. Then, turn off the water supply using the hot and cold shut-off valves and turn on the faucet to drain the water from the system.

Start Disconnecting

You will need to crawl under sink to reach all the fittings and nuts and this can be uncomfortable, so use a towel for cushioning. If you have a garbage disposal then disconnect this before you do anything. Using the adjustable wrench, loosen the nuts that connect the supply tubes to the supply valves. Use the penetrating oil if the nuts are hard to turn by leaving a small amount on each nut for a few minutes. Then use the bucket to catch any remaining water.

Remove the Faucet

To remove the faucet itself, remove the mounting nuts beneath the faucet using the basin wrench. Once the mounting nuts have been removed you can lift up the faucet and remove it completely.

Install the New Faucet

Once you have removed the old faucet, clean the area using a sink-cleaning product. Attach the new supply tubes to the faucet and wrap the threads with teflon tape before applying the supply tubes to prevent leaks. Then, place the new faucet into position and get someone to help you hold it. Insert the supply tubes, screw on the mounting nuts but be careful not to tighten them. Attach the supply lines to the supply valves, attach the teflon tape to the threads on the valves and screw them on. If you need to reconnect the garbage disposal then do this now.

Turn on the Faucet

Once all that is done you can turn on the faucet and turn on the water supply. Let the water run for a few minutes and check that everything is working. If its all working fine then you have successfully replaced your faucet!
