Repurposing Marketing
For many years organizations have flourished with their use of marketing initiatives such as advertising and promotions
. However our globalized and connected world create a cacophony of competition and noise; making it almost impossible to be heard above the din.
Organizations and especially entrepreneurs must be smarter with resource so that they can build brand, differentiation and market appeal. The nexus of proper marketing allows firms to work smarter not harder with their marketing dollars enabling more profitability. The notion warrants an alteration in marketing strategy towards a more customer centric application. Value must be relayed to customers not solely product or service.
Organizations must define benefits the client receives and how products and services satisfy needs. Additionally, customer-buying habits have changed with the proliferation of technology. With customers moving constantly it is vital that organizations display messages so that prospective clients see and hear them.
Public Relations. One of the least expensive and wide reaching methods to access markets and their consumers is public relations. Press Releases and Publicity are two tools used by a variety of organizations that create relationships with stakeholders. With hundreds of journalists and freelancers seeking media information each day PR is a tremendous and economical marketing method.
Web Sites. Customers to customer influences are stronger then ever. Clients seek out information about services they require by trolling the Internet. The world of connectivity has replaced the Yellow Pages. Clients seek to discover what others have to say about products and services. Investment in a website is necessary.
Blogs. With customer-to-customer influence increasing, blogs are a tremendous opportunity to build client relationships. Blogs enable surveys, testimonials, opinion and other forms of value to clients. Many firms such as Proctor and Gamble use blogs to discover product usage and test opinion on new products.
Support Media. Whereas advertising was meant for billboards and magazines, support media makes nothing sacred. Parking spaces, posters above urinals, turnstiles, shopping bags et. al have all become expensive real estate. Support media gets you even closer to consumers that use a multitude of daily products.
Mass Media. Although expensive due to cost per unit, periodicals and newspapers continue to reach multiple demographics.
Mobile Media. With the increase in mobile technology, mobile media and text advertising is forming now. Apple has solidified several major advertisers for applications using its new iPad product.
Cause Marketing. Consumers concerned about environmental and numerous social issues, have an allegiance with firms that give back to communities. Cause Marketing is a marketing formula that partners profitable and non-profitable firms. After the formulation of an alliance the two organizations work seamlessly on exclusive fundraising events within their respective communities (fundraisers, walkathons, auctions, etc.) This is a great method for community renewal as well as branding.
The list above is by no means exclusive or meant as a means to an end. Organizations that desire deeper market penetration and increased brand should use a multitude of methods to increase community value. With the amount of current noise one method (i.e. advertising) will be crushed under the weight of competition. However, a multi-level approach creates more visibility in less time.
