Rev Up Your Metabolism; It Is The Quickest Way To Burn Fat
As anyone who has ever tried to lose weight can tell you
, the first few days or even weeks go well, but then your metabolism slows down to accommodate your decreased caloric intake.
What can you do to rev up your metabolism? Plenty! Keeping your metabolism at top speed is the
quickest way to burn fat, so it makes good sense to learn how to accomplish this.
It"s all About the Brain
The brain is in charge of all those hormonal responses that control your metabolism. When it senses a decrease in caloric input it immediately goes on alert. If that decrease continues, after a few days, the brain begins to adjust leptin levels. Leptin is one of the major hormones related to appetite control and metabolic response.
Of course, leptin isn"t the whole story. 5-AMP-activate Protein Kinase (AMPK) is an enzyme that is involved in regulating the metabolism of the body"s fuel by stimulating the burning of fatty acids.
It inhibits another molecule, acetyl coenzyme A carboxylase (ACC), and encourages fat to be directed to the mitochondria in the cells, which burn fat, rather than have the fat stored in fat cells. Right about now you are saying "huh?"
What all that translates into is that keeping up those leptin levels means that your body directs itself to burn fat as energy for cells instead of storing it.
Keep that Leptin Level Up
All that information is to explain why you need to keep your leptin levels up if you want to burn fat. The simplest way to do this is to "cheat" on your diet. I know that sounds counter intuitive but that is what works.
You see, during a week of dieting your leptin levels can drop as much as 50%. Lower leptin levels = slower metabolism. Over time that can kill any diet. If on the other hand, you plan to cheat, once a week, that single day of eating items with both fat and carbohydrates will raise your leptin levels again.
A good choice for a "cheat" day is something like a slice of pizza or macaroni and cheese, food that packs that double punch. Exactly what you eat matters less than the fact that you plan a day where you eat with the goal of raising your leptin level.
What about muscle?
Now, here is the kicker. Leptin also plays a role in muscular development. Not only does it seem to prevent atrophy, it may actually help build muscle tissue.
So, by keeping your leptin level up you are likely to help your body build lean muscle tissue faster. Muscle burns fat. Of course to maximize that muscle building you need to exercise properly; focus on resistance training as well as cardiovascular activity. See the cycle?
Double Duty from one Goal
Now, I know this article has been very scientific, but the conclusions you can take from it are simple.
1.Eat properly 6 days out of 7
2.Plan a "cheat day" during which you eat foods rich in simple carbohydrates and fat.
3.Exercise regularly to encourage your body to build muscle.
That"s the golden ticket; the
quickest way to burn fat.
