They are Minoxidil and Propecia. Propecia is allowed only for men while Minoxidil is approved for both men and women.
Minoxidil was initially introduced as a drug to treat high blood pressure but is showed an increased hair growth and therefore later it was made available without prescription. It is preferred over its counterpart Propecia because it has fewer side effects.
Minoxidil is easily available without prescription as a topically applied solution called Rogaine. Cheaper solutions are also available but not recommended. The 2% rogaine solution is meant for both men and women while the stronger 5% solution is allowed only for men.
