Ril Plans To Infuse $ 10 Bn In 4g Network

RIL (Reliance Industries Limited) s 4G plans gain momentum as the conglomerate plans

to infuse another $ 10 billion to rope in SPIRITs software products for voice and video call over LTE, as mentioned by one of its vendors SPIRIT DSP.

The company also mentioned that IBSL (Infotel Broadband Services), subsidiary of Infotel Broadband, has opted for its voice and video call technology. It is the sole company to have 20 MHz of pan- India airwaves for offering 4G services, at present.

A statement issued by SPIRIT DSP claims that RIL decided to opt for SPRIT software products and services over LTE as the process would have been delayed , had it waited for phone- makers to offer handsets in transmitting voice and video in 4G network. This decision by Mukesh Ambani-led conglomerate paves way for a speedy provision of these services. However, there has been no official comment or confirmation from RIL about DSPs statement.

SPIRIT DSP has also mentioned that its software products for voice and video calls will enable RIL to offer superior quality services to its subscribers wherein with this application, it will be possible for one to make voice calls using the internet. The company, hence believes, that this application, once rolled out will be a good alternative for Skype.

At present, there are not many options to make free calls in India, owing to the limitation of using Voice Over Internet Protocol Application (VOIP) only from personal desktops, and not from their cell phones. With the roll out of RILs 4G services, this problem will be resolved.

ISBL had, in October, notified the Telecom Ministry about its preparedness for trials testing the technologys competency in enabling wireless broadband services and had hence, asked for the provision and allotment of number series for its recently developed Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) technology. It also revealed that the VoLTE technology would facilitate a flawless working with the 2G, 3G, NLD and ILD services that are currently available. Apart from that, this technology will also enable call receiving and termination from these networks to IBSLs.

Reliance Infotel, Mukesh Ambanis telecom venture has informed the Ministry about its development of technology, adhering to the unified licensing rules and regulations by TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) that will render subscribers access to voice, messaging and video, using a single device.
