Rim Will Remain Committed To The Tablet Pc Market
RIM denied the rumors on Thursday that the company will no longer continue to produce PlayBook tablet
. Some analysts had said the company may consider withdrawing from the Tablet PC market.
RIM's spokesperson Marisa Conway e-mailed a statement saying the rumors that BlackBerry will no longer produce PlayBook are purely fictional. RIM is still committed to the Tablet PC market and the future of QNX system on the platform. QNX is RIM's operating system for PlayBook. The analyst said that RIM had previously said the company will launch the super phone using the QNX system in the next year to replace the current aging phone software.
The analyst said in a report earlier today, RIM may stop and cancel the other PlayBook Tablet PC project. In his report, he said: "We believe that, RIM has stopped the production of PlayBook. It is actively considering withdrawing from the Tablet PC market."
The analyst said that last week there is news that Quanta Computer has cut a large number of its employees at a factory. The analyst said this factory is mainly responsible for the production of PlayBook. In addition, our due diligence report shows that RIM has canceled other development plans of the tablet PC project.
As Apple iPad dominate in the tablet PC market, PlayBook has been unable to achieve much progress. Amazon on Wednesday released a content-rich, inexpensive Kindle Fire Tablet PC. HP has already given up TouchPad Tablet PC in the last month, only 7 weeks from the company launched the Tablet PC.
RIM said in the last six weeks of the company's first fiscal quarter, PlayBook's sales are 500000 million units. In the second quarter, it is 200000 units. Many retailers have recently lowered prices of PlayBook. The analysts said that the move aims to reduce inventory. Due to the lost sales of Playbook, RIM continued to cut the annual shipment goal of the supplier. Playbook's exclusive OEM production line Quanta can only reduce the staff
The analysts believe that the PlayBook can not make a major breakthrough in the iPad dominant tablet PC market. After Amazon launched the new $ 199 Kindle Fire tablet PC, the consumer's attention will be further transferred.
The analyst said that as Apple iPad dominate in the tablet PC market, PlayBook has been unable to achieve much progress. Rim said it will continue to produce PlayBook tablet and committed to the development of the tablet PC.
