Rise of the SSC Board: From a Simple Examination of Yore to the Cut Throat Competition of Today

There is no shortage of students appearing for their SSC board (Secondary School Certificate) of Maharashtra every year

. The examination has gained enormously over the years with parents leaving no stone unturned in helping their children prepare for the SSC board exams. In fact, the very year 2010 saw a massive turn out of over sixteen lakh SSC students from Maharashtra appearing for their SSC board exams. This included about nine lakh boys and seven lakh girls. The SSC Syllabus has over the years seen a lot many changes in context to the chapters as well as introducing newer and fresher material for the students. This is done keeping the contemporary times in mind.

They are all well packed in terms the content, but then again do tend to have an outdated feel considering the advancements made in the fields of science, computers and math especially. There is a lot left to be desired for the students who are left in darkness and unaware of many a modern thing. The Maharashtra SSC Boardmay be considered equivalent to the General Certificate of Secondary Education(GCSE) in England. But where the English counterpart gets a one up when compared with the SSC Board is the fact that they keep on updating their syllabus on a regular basis. This is the same as is the case with most of the other advanced countries of the world. This apart, the constant innovations in the use of computer technology that are used the optimum for teaching students.

Another area where the SSC Board lacks behind these other international education boards is first hand experiences to be given to the students. This in terms, more practical assignments for science, exposure to the latest development in computers, audio-visuals and field trips for history and geography, making the students participate in dramas, plays. All these should be very much inculcated as a part of the SSC Syllabus. This would in turn further enhance and give greater value to the SSC results.

More emphasis should also be given to the national subjects namely Hindi or even more specifically Sanskrit which is the oldest and the finest of languages. The Sanskrit teachings in turn will not only greatly boast the minds of the students in terms all the various subjects, but gives them a whole new world to discover.

The Maharashtra SSC Boardrecently changed and introduced a revamped SSC Syllabus to the students some years back. But to give the Maharashtra SSC Board its fair share of due. It has never been harsh on its students while the syllabus has always been competent enough for them to gain maximum knowledge in a simplistic but effective manner. This has always been specialty of the Maharashtra SSC Board be it science, math, history, geography, civics, English, Hindi, Marathi or other extra vocational subjects also given in.
