Rivers, Waterfalls, Forests and Villages, There's Something for the Adventurer Near Luang Prabang

The UNESCO Heritage town conjures up a fine mix of glittering temples, traditional Lao wooden houses and hints of European architecture all within a green environment in what is perhaps the cleanest and tidiest town in the continent. And the people, well, they sure know how to pass on that laid back attitude, don't they? But what if you want to fight this relaxed mood? It's hard, but possible.

Well, you are in Luang Prabang, after all. Do your usually temple rounds before gearing yourself up for this adventure. After a one and a half hour drive to Nam Ou River, put kayak to water and enjoy a scenic rafting experience. And hey, if you've never paddled or rafted before, no sweat! These rapids are calm enough for beginners to pick up. And calm rapids means there is some time for you to soothe in the atmosphere. As the sun sets, park your kayak riverside and hike up hill for a stay at a village and learn about the villagers' rich traditions and colorful cultures.

Now down the hill we go. Hop back into your paddling boats and kayak to where the Nam Ou River meets the grand Mekong River. And the backdrop? Limestone caves and caverns. It certainly is picturesque. You'll actually head into one of them, the most famous one called Pak Ou Caves. So, what's inside? Thousands and thousands of Buddha images. Pretty strange, huh? But also fascinating. Next, you'll paddle your way to a village known for its fabulous local rice wine. Try if you dare, the drink sure packs a punch!

Now let's see the Lao scenery from another perspective; on the back of a giant jungle animal also known as the elephant. This gentle beast will take you to the beautiful cascading Tad Sae waterfall. This is your lunch spot. Bon apetit. Say good-bye to your new friend as it's now your turn to do the walking. It'll be fun, because you'll pass through the beautiful greenery before reaching a Khmu village. Then bike through the countryside to discover Hmong villages. Feel free to cool off at one of the inviting pools at Kuang Si Falls.

Then it's back to Luang Prabang. Time to spread your infectious and adventurous grooves that you picked up from yourAdventurous Luang Prabang adventure tour!
