Robbie Williams Tops Euro Chart

The latest album from British pop veteran Robbie Williams tops Billboard's European Albums chart this week, marking a No

. 1 debut for the album Reality Killed the Video Star. The album moved a hefty 238,000 copies in the UK but narrowly missed the coveted No. 1 spot on the UK album chart, as 1,517 more albums were sold by boy band JLS.

However, in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Holland Williams' latest release topped the charts; in Italy the Czech Republic the album came in at No. 2 on the album charts. Video Killed the Radio Star is the No. 3 album in Denmark, the No. 6 album in Norway and Ireland and the No. 7 album in Portugal.

The former Take That member recently confirmed that he'd been working with his former bandmates on new songs. According to NME, Williams confirmed the rumors of the new studio sessions during an interview with BBC Radio 2.

Williams said during an interview set for broadcast on Christmas: "Oh sod it, we've been in and the songs are absolutely amazing."

According to the singer, the new songs he's been recording with the group sound "incredibly great." However, Williams didn't report any plans to actually release the songs he and the members of Take That have been recording.

Williams recently appeared on stage with his old band at the London Royal Albert Hall for a charity performance for Children in Need on Thursday, November 12.

Last year's X Factor finalists JLS have seen off Robbie Williams in the race for the top of the album chart.

Williams's much-promoted Reality Killed The Video Star made its album chart debut at number two.

The boy band's debut album, JLS, went straight in at number one despite tough competition from the former Take That star, as well as from Snow Patrol.

The winning margin between the two albums was less than 1%. Both albums sold more than 200,000 copies.

It makes them the biggest selling albums of the year so far.

Unless Williams climbs higher in upcoming weeks, it will be his first studio album not to reach number one.

Williams, who last week joined his former Take That bandmates on stage at the Children in Need charity concert, has been orchestrating his return to the pop scene for some months.

Last month he put comeback nerves behind him to perform his first full concert for three years, as part of the BBC Electric Proms in London.

The gig followed an unsteady appearance on X Factor and revelations about him suffering from stage fright.

Reality Killed The Video Star is his first release since 2006's Rudebox, which met with a tepid reception from fans and critics.
