Developed by copying the rope ascent, descent and dangling techniques used in climbing and caving, rope access is a positioning of workers so that they can easily access parts of buildings and other structures like bridges, dams and towers that are otherwise hard to get to.

While the typical applications of this method are in inspection, painting and maintenance of structures at heights, with special equipment added, jobs that require heavy tools can be performed. These include welding, cutting and heavy material handling.

It is cheap and time saving: Compared to having to set up other devices like scaffolding to support the work crew, it is, by far, cheaper and more time saving. There is no time to be wasted on installing and dismantling access equipment, and this can also help in the time and cost of the overall construction.

It doesnt get in the way of others: construction usually has more than one work going on at the same time. Using this method makes it possible for other jobs to continue being done without any hindrance. And this too saves on the overall cost of the project.

Allows access to hard to reach places: There are some parts of constructions that are just not accessible using other methods. The small amount of equipment needed (mostly ropes) that allows the workers to perform their duties makes it easy for them to avoid obstructive parts of the buildings.

It can be used during emergencies: Sometimes, when there is the danger of parts of buildings corroding, breaking off or even collapsing, the technicians can quickly be sent up to fix the damages before anyone gets hurts.

Now, contrary to popular belief, the technicians are quite safe while working at these tremendous heights, and those that hire them need not be apprehensive about hiring them. This fact is made possible because of all the care that is put into their profession in general. To begin with, each technician is a trained professional to the highest possible calibre.
