Rottweiler Training Tips For Perfectly Behaved Dogs
Rottweiler training can be difficult, but if you let your dog know that you are the boss early on
, it will go a lot easier. You will find it's much easier to get your Rottie to respect you when he respects that you are the boss.
There are a few things you can do to accomplish this. First you want to get your dog to roll over and expose his belly for rubbing often. Exposing the belly is a posture of submission which will establish you as the leader. Also, you want to make sure that you proceed your dog through any doorway as this is what the pack leader does in a dog pack. One final thing is to make eye contact with your dog and be sure that he looks away first.
Productive dog training is founded on positive reinforcement. Which means that you should never punish your dog, but reward him for the desired behavior. The outdated approach of "rubbing his nose in it" is hardly successful when it comes to training. Certainly, positive reinforcement consisting of praise for the wanted behavior in addition to treats will be the way to develop a relationship and get your dog to respond to your commands.
Dog training isn't something that can be done in an afternoon, you need to keep at it consistently. Preferably, training must be performed every day so be sure to plan this in to your schedule. Each session doesn't have to take a long time - 10 or 15 minutes is often sufficient.
With dog training, all work and no play is definitely no fun so try dividing the sessions up with 5 or 10 minutes of training and then 5 minutes of play time. Continue this pattern until the session is over. Keep an eye on how your dog responds in each session and you will come across a method that works best for them.
Training your dog is more about determination and repetition than anything else. You should strive to have a training session each day where you have your dog move through all the commands he knows and then add in the new command and repeat that repeatedly. Some folks like to do a training session in the morning and another in the evening and others prefer one longer session each day.
Rottweiler training isn't actually any different than training any other dog. You just need to be aware of the personality of the breed. If you work with this, as opposed to against it, you can easily have a properly trained Rottweiler that everyone will love to be around.
